Just half an hour from the southern outskirts of the city of Quito, Ecuador’s capital and the First World Cultural Heritage Site, at KM 20 of the route Aloag – Santo Domingo towards the Pacific Coast, on the Western Cordillera and part of the Illinizas Reserve, we will find Bombolí, a private reserve at 3000 meters of altitude with more than 120 hectares of upper montane forest. This amazing reserve has been conserved and cared for by a couple of nature lovers, Marianita and Oswaldito. They have spent more than thirty years of their lives fulfilling their great passion: Making Bombolí a place of indescribable beauty that can us show that, with patience and love, we can make this world a better place.
This magical journey starts very early in the morning when our guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the meeting point. Once at the entrance of Bombolí, Marianita, Oswaldito and their horses will be there to greet you. We will embark on a 1 ½ horse ride up to Bombolí through the soft terrain. This trip will give you the opportunity to visit the unique cloud forest ecosystem from a higher viewpoint in the middle of the Ecuadorian Andes. Perfect for adventure seekers, intermediate riders, advanced riders with little time and beginners looking for a longer ride.
After your ride, Marianita and Oswaldito will be waiting with a delicious lunch, made with natural and organic products, which have been planted and harvested mostly in the garden of the family. Following this activity we will take a short walk to the orchid’s garden, where we can admire these exotic species in their flowering stage.
In the afternoon we will hike for approximately one hour and a half to the Giant Fern Forest. This forest of indescribable beauty is filled with giant ferns that are the main protagonists of this surreal landscape. On the way, we will discover trails surrounded by hundreds of wild orchids which are blooming. Our final destination is a waterfall and a small water spring of about 5 meters in height located in the center of this forest. The vast ecosystem of natural richness and breathtaking beauty is the result of years of care and conservation by the owners.
Afterwards we will return to the country house to have a delicious hot coffee around the fireplace where we can share our thoughts and listen to the life experiences of the family.
Before going to bed, we will take approximately a 30 minute walk, where we will have the opportunity to listen to the sounds of some nocturnal animals. If we are lucky, we might see the mysterious owls which we can only encounter in Bombolí at night. Finally we can finish the day with the satisfaction of having enjoyed the most of every minute. It will be time to rest in a comfortable accommodation in the country house at Bombolí.
